Korea to play Aussies in November friendly

The Korean national football team will play a friendly against Australia in Seoul in mid-November, the Korea Football Association announced yesterday.

The tune-up match, slated for Nov. 14, was organized to help the Taegeuk Warriors stay sharp during the long break in their campaign for the 2014 FIFA World Cup, the country’s football governing body said.

Leading Group A in the final round of Asian qualifications for the quadrennial event, Korea will take on Iran on Oct. 16 and then have to wait for five months before their fifth preliminary match against Qatar on March 26.

Australia is third in Group B, behind Japan and Jordan, and is bidding for a third straight berth to the World Cup.
