Sales of Korean-brand cars in China drop in December

Sales of Korean-brand cars dropped in China this month, largely due to rival Japanese-branded cars’ recovery in the world’s largest auto market, a market estimate showed Friday.

During the first two weeks of December, the number of Korean cars sold in China was 5,081, investment bank JPMorgan said.

It was a 2 percent decrease compared to 5,191 vehicles sold in the first two weeks of November. Korean car makers’ market share was estimated at around 11.6 percent, down 2.2 percentage points from 13.8 percent a month earlier.

In the same period this month, the sales of Japanese cars reached 6,562 vehicles, up 51 percent on-month from 4,338 vehicles. Yonhap
