Hyundai-Kia now making more vehicles abroad than at home

The overseas production of Korea’s two major automobile makers has exceeded that on the home front, data showed yesterday.
The combined offshore output of Hyundai Motor and its affiliate Kia Motors reached 3.32 million units in the January-November period in 2012, compared with 3.18 million units produced in the domestic market, according to the data by the Korea Automobile Manufacturers Association. It is the first time for the two auto companies to have seen overseas production outstrip domestic output, the KAMA said.
