Following U.S. President Barack Obama’s speech at the Hankuk University of Foreign Studies in Dongdaemun District, northeastern Seoul, last March, the school renamed its auditorium “Obama Hall” yesterday. Park Chul, president of Hankuk University, said at the naming ceremony yesterday attended by diplomats, politicians and professors, that the newly renamed auditorium, formally called the Minerva Auditorium, was renamed “in order to mark in history the venue in which President Obama lectured.” The U.S. Embassy’s Minister Counselor for Public Affairs, Brent Byers, conveyed U.S. Ambassador to Seoul Sung Kim’s congratulatory remarks as the ambassador currently is in the United States ahead of President Obama’s inauguration Sunday.
