LG Electronics wants damages from Samsung over fridge videoLG Electronics has launched a compensation suit against Samsung Electronics over a controversial YouTube advertisement that compared the size of refrigerators made by the two appliance giants, court records showed yesterday.
The video, posted by Samsung last August under the title “Inconvenient Truth About Refrigerator Capacity,” shows the capacity of its own refrigerator compared to a rival refrigerator by pouring dyed water and putting small cans into the two refrigerators.
In the lawsuit filed with the Seoul Southern District Court, LG Electronics demanded Samsung Electronics pay a total of some 10 billion won ($9.4 million) in damages.
“The advertisement deeply hurt the corporate image and also greatly affected our sales,” LG said in the lawsuit.
LG earlier filed an injunction with a Seoul court, arguing that Samsung wrongfully accused LG of inflating the capacity of one of its refrigerators.
“Despite the court injunction, the video footage was not immediately deleted and posted for about three months,” LG said in the lawsuit.
The Seoul Central District Court last November sided with LG Electronics, ordering the video to be blocked. Yonhap
