Fissler Korea tells stores to play fair and avoid discounts

Fissler Korea, the local distributor of German kitchenware brand Fissler, has forbidden local retailers from giving consumers overly generous discounts on its pressure cookers to keep a check on prices, the Fair Trade Commission said yesterday.

The FTC has imposed fines totally 175 million won ($165,200) on the local distributor for restricting pricing competition among local stores since May 2007.

It ordered outlets which applied discounts not approved by the local headquarters to pay fines of 5 million won. This money is then handed in the form of financial rewards to those outlets that report on the unfair discounts.

The headquarters even stopped supplying its products to stores that frequently gave out huge discounts.
