Roh Jeong-yeon was found guilty of transferring $1 million in January 2009 without properly reporting it to the authorities. The money was intended to close her 2008 purchase of the apartment in the state of New Jersey.
In a ruling, the Seoul Central District Court handed down a four-month sentence, suspended for one year.
The 38-year-old daughter bought the Hudson Club apartment from Gyeong Yeon-hee, a Korean-American lawyer, after paying $400,000 as a deposit, according to court records. When Roh was pressured by Gyeong to pay the rest in 2008, she then illegally transferred $1 million.
