BMW Mini JCW Grand Prix will roll on Kumho Tires

Kumho Tires, the nation’s second-largest tire manufacturer, said on Thursday it has been selected as the sole tire supplier for the BMW Mini John Cooper Works (JCW) Grand Prix, a high-performance sport-tuned version of the popular compact car.

The Korean company’s Ecsta V700 will be used as Original Equipment (OE) tires for the Mini JCW GP. Only a limited-edition 2,000 units of the fastest Mini yet will be produced worldwide.

The affiliate of Kumho Asiana Group said it has been working with BMW Group since the development of the Mini JCW GP and received final technical approval in June. Kumho Tires started producing the Ecsta V700 from September.

“We’ve worked with BMW since 2011, when we inked a supply deal with them,” Jung Il-taek, executive director of Kumho Tire’s central research center, said in a statement. “We feel proud that a product we manufacture at our plant in Gwangju will be going all over the world with the Mini JCW GP.”

Kumho is currently supplying its OE tires to other global carmakers like Mercedes-Benz, Volkswagen, Chrysler, General Motors and Ford.
