Asiana IDT secures \250B deal for resort’s tech system

Asiana IDT, an affiliate of Kumho Asiana Group, said yesterday it had secured a 250 billion won ($230 million) contract to construct an information and communication technology system for Malaysia’s Mersing Laguna Resort project managed by Radiant Starfish Development.

The local IT company said the order is its largest ever. Asiana IDT said it already has set up a unit in Kuala Lumpur and will work on the project through December next year. It includes building energy and property management systems as well as establishing data centers.

Asiana IDT has experience building IT systems for Kumho Asiana Group affiliates, but industry insiders say the deal makes the company a global player.

“This order affirms Asiana IDT’s ability in the field of IT construction,” said Hwang Sun-bok, president of Asiana IDT. “We will participate from planning to design, and this project is a step toward becoming an ICT integrator.”

The 7.7 trillion won Mersing Laguna Resort includes hotels, shopping centers and theme parks on three reclaimed islands totaling over 2,000 acres.
