New Windows 8 smartphone is about to hit shelves

Samsung Electronics, the world’s top maker of smartphones, memory chips and flat-panel TVs, said Wednesday it will start selling a new smartphone that runs on Windows 8 in Hong Kong.

The ATIV S goes on sale in the Chinese territory today as the Korean tech behemoth seeks to expand its product line of mobile devices and meet the needs of different consumers.

Apart from the latest Windows operating system, Microsoft Office is also preloaded on ATIV S, allowing users to use Word, PowerPoint and Excel programs without being restricted by time and location, Samsung Electronics officials said.
