Asiana was in the black for 2012 while revenues grew 5%

Asiana Airlines, nation’s second largest air carrier, announced yesterday its 2012 sales have marked 5.88 trillion won ($5.32 billion) with operating profit reaching 179.4 billion won.

The company’s sales increased 5 percent from 2011, but the operating profit was cut into nearly half. The airline explained that its operating cost has increased 10.4 percent last year due to high oil price which also saw and on-year increase of 6 percent from a year earlier.

However, its net profit has turned into black with 62.5 billion won compared to 29.9 billion won net loss in 2011.

The affiliate of Kumho Asiana Group said for the fourth quarter of 2012, it had 1.47 trillion won of sales and operating loss of 15.6 billion won, but the impact of weakening yen wasn’t as hard as expected. Yonhap
