LG washing machines fall short of standards, Chinese say

Washing machines produced by Korean electronics maker LG Electronics failed to meet home appliance quality standards, Chinese authorities said yesterday.

The Shanghai Bureau of Quality and Technical Supervision said in a statement that its test of sample products showed some LG Electronics washing machines were among products that did not meet the quality standards. LG Electronics was among five companies, including Panasonic and Haier, that were found to have quality problems.

LG Electronics officials said the company is looking into the matter, stressing that its washing machines are in full compliance with the Chinese national standards.

“LG Electronics has always attached great importance to customer satisfaction and corporate social responsibility,” the company said in a statement.

It explained that the latest test conducted by the Jiangsu Provincial Bureau of Quality Supervision showed the same product WD-N10420D meets the quality standard. The company will send the test result to the Shanghai Bureau as soon as possible, the officials said.
