GS Group sees 3,000 new jobs in 2012
GS Group, a Korean energy and retail conglomerate, said yesterday it will spend 2.7 trillion won ($2.5 billion) on its energy, logistics and construction units, and create 3,000 jobs this year.The group’s 2013 investment is up 8 percent year-on-year, or 200 billion won, the group said in a statement.
“In order to combat the prolonged global economic downturn and build sustainable growth engines, we have decided to expand our facility spending despite difficult situations,” the group said.
GS will invest 2 trillion won in the heavy-oil cracking facility of GS Caltex, its refining unit, overseas resource exploration projects and power generating stations.
It also will spend 450 billion won to increase the number of stores of GS Retails, its retail unit, and help GS Home Shopping enter Southeast Asian countries.
GS Home Shopping launched its business in Thailand in November 2011, before moving into Vietnam in February 2012 and Indonesia in July.
