Homeplus answers the call for affordable phone service

Homeplus said yesterday it will launch its mobile communications brand Plus Mobile at its 134 stores nationwide today as the first discount chain to provide Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) services using KT’s network.

MVNOs are mobile phone operators that borrow networks and communication frequencies from telecom companies.

Renting the frequencies can provide customers with cheaper payment plans centered on basic calling services as the user needs no sizable investments.

Homeplus teamed up with KT to jump into an MVNO business last August in line with the government’s MVNO, or thrifty phone policy, amid heightening competition in the mobile communications market.
