Kim Yu-na to reduce ice-show schedule

Figure skating queen Kim Yu-na will hold only one ice show this season to be better prepared for the upcoming Winter Olympics, her agency said yesterday. All That Sports said that Kim’s ice show, “All That Skate 2013,” will be held in the Olympic Park Ice Rink in southern Seoul on June 21-23.

The agency said it will be the only ice show she puts on this season. ?Kim’s All That Skate ice shows have been held twice every year, once in the spring and another in the summer, since 2010.

The Vancouver Olympic gold medalist has trained for a new season at the Korea National Training Center in Taeneung, northeastern Seoul, since winning the 2013 World Figure Skating Championships in Canada last month, the 2012-13 season finale.

After returning from a 20-month break in December, Kim showed no signs of rust and scored 218.31 points at the 2013 worlds, the second-most ever in women’s figure skating. Kim holds the highest-point mark, 228.56, which she set at the 2010 Olympics.

Kim, who plans to retire after competing in the 2014 Sochi Games, said last month that she will do her best in every single event of her final season as an athlete.

“She is focusing on the preparation for the ice show in order to show an inspiring performance to local fans as much as she did to the fans all over the world during the 2013 world championships,” All That Sports said.
