Kumho Asiana provides funds for Chinese earthquake victims

Kumho Asiana Group donated 1 million yuan ($162,000) to the Chinese Embassy in Korea yesterday to support the Beijing government’s rescue and relief efforts following the earthquake Saturday in Sichuan Province.

The conglomerate said its three affiliates - Kumho Tires, Asiana Airlines and Kumho Bus Lines - joined in the donation. Kumho Tire CEO Kim Chang-kyu visited the embassy yesterday and sent condolences to Chinese Ambassador Zhang Xinsen.

The group official said Asiana Airlines will transport relief-related cargo for free. The carrier operates daily flights to Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan Province.

Kumho Asiana Chairman Park Sam-koo also heads Korea-China Friendship Association.
