Cho Yong-pil to make festival debut

Cho Yong-pil

Veteran singer Cho Yong-pil will make an appearance at a rock festival for the first time since his debut 45 years ago.

Super Sonic 2013 released the first lineup for this year’s two-day event in August at Olympic Park, southwestern Seoul, yesterday. The 63-year-old star was among those listed.

Cho has received a surge of requests from music festivals in past years and decided to join this time at the popular annual rock festival.

“Such decision is to thank the fans for their love and attention,” said Cho’s agency, according to the JoongAng Ilbo, an affiliate of the Korea JoongAng Daily.

“As the festival is happening in an urban setting, we do hope that the more diverse music culture will appeal to a wider range of people.”

The agency added that it will be a great chance for Cho to perform music with younger musicians.

He has decided to give back his share of payment for the festival to the organizer so that it can focus more on stage setup and festival operations.
