Daelim gets biggest bridge contract from Brunei gov’t

Daelim Industrial said yesterday it has secured a 123.3 billion won ($110 million) order from the Brunei government to build the Sungai Brunei Bridge. Daelim will expand the roads leading to the bridge while building two interchanges. The estimated construction period is three years.

The Sungai Brunei Bridge will be the single largest bridge in Brunei, crossing the Brunei River. It will connect Kampong Sungai Kebun region and Jalan region to boost the economy in the southern part of the nation.

Currently, people who want to travel between the two regions had to take a 25-mile detour.

Daelim is the first Korean builder to enter Brunei after building an LNG plant there in 1970.

The company said it hopes to be a leading player in bridge construction, which European and Japanese companies dominate.
