SK Engineering and Construction, the construction arm of SK Group, said yesterday that it secured a $825 million contract in Qatar after its consortium won a project to build subway stations and railways.
According to the company, the consortium, which includes Italy’s Impregilo and Qatar’s Galfar, signed a $2 billion deal with Qatar Railways Company to finish Qatar Doha Metro Phase-1 Red Line North Underground project.
SK E&C and Impregilo each has a 41.25 percent share of the project, while Galfar has 17.5 percent.
SK E&C said it will build 11.69 kilometers (7.26 miles) of underground railway while setting up seven stations. The company said that since Qatar is ready to release various construction projects before hosting the 2022 FIFA World Cup, this contract was a good opportunity to get additional orders.
