Leessang wins rental dispute in court

The Seoul High Court ruled in favor of hip-hop duo Leessang on Wednesday in an ongoing legal dispute with a tenant from a building in Sinsa-dong, southern Seoul, owned by the musicians.

Gil and Gary filed suit to ask the tenant, surnamed Seo, to empty the storefront as Seo refused to do so by saying the previous owner of the building verbally promised that Seo could have the rights to the rented space for five years. The duo purchased the building in May, and the lease for the storefront expired in October, according to the singers.

The court said Leessang must return the tenant’s deposit of 40 million won ($35,750) and that Seo must vacate the premises.

Should Seo refuse to leave, the court authorized the duo to deduct 3 million won in rent from the deposit each month.

Seo said he will appeal the court order.
