President Park Geun-hye’s visit to China is only three days away./ 박근혜 대통령의 중국 방문이 3일 앞으로 다가왔다/ Beijing has expressed hopes for a successful summit as seen in the remarks of Hua Chunying, China’s foreign ministry spokeswoman./ 중국 외교부 화춘잉 대변인의 표현에서 알 수 있듯이 성공적인 정상회담에 대한 기대를 중국정부는 나타내었다/ She identified Park as an “old friend of China.”/ 화춘잉 대변인은 “중국의 오랜 친구”로 박 대통령을 생각하고 있다는 것이다/ Park’s summit with counterpart Xi Jinping will likely offer a good opportunity to elevate bilateral relations, which soured a bit during the Lee Myung-bak government, to a new level./ 박 대통령의 회담 상대인 시진핑 주석과의 정상회담은 이명박 정부 시절에 다소 소원했던 양국 관계를 새로운 수준으로 격상시킬 수 있는 좋은 기회가 될 것이다/The biggest question is whether both leaders will demonstrate any noteworthy consensus on issues on the Korean Peninsula, in particular nuclear threats from North Korea./ 가장 큰 문제는 양국 지도자가 한반도 문제에 관한, 특히 북한의 핵위협과 관련하여 주목할 만한 합의를 행동으로 보여주느냐 하는 것이다/ Although past joint statements by the two countries’ leaders occasionally mentioned the delicate issue, they fell short of meeting our expectations as they were neutral and predictable agreements./ 비록 과거에 양 국가 지도자들이 공동성명으로 가끔 예민한 문제를 언급하기는 했지만 중립적이고 예상 가능한 합의를 함으로써 우리의 기대에는 미치지 못했다/ Since the North’s third nuclear test in February, however, China appears to be more stern about accomplishing the denuclearization of the North, as suggested by Xi’s remarks at his summit with U.S. President Barack Obama earlier this month./ 하지만, 2월 북한이 3차 핵실험을 한 이후 중국은 시 주석이 이달 초 버락 오바마 미국 대통령과의 정상회담에서 밝혔듯이 북한의 비핵화를 달성하는 것에 관해서 더 심각하게 생각하고 있다는 것을 표명하고 있다/
The Park-Xi summit scheduled for June 27 follows the Obama-Xi summit in California./ 6월 27일로 예정되어 있는 박 대통령과 시진핑 주석의 정상회담은 캘리포니아에서의 오바마 대통령과 시진핑 주석의 정상회담에 이은 것이다/ We hope it will pave the way for a successful resolution of the nuclear conundrum on the peninsula./ 우리는 이번 회담이 한반도에 관한 난제인 핵문제를 성공적으로 해결하기 위한 토대를 마련할 수 있기를 바란다/ Park is expected to explain to Xi her ideas of how to address the issue based on her discussions with Obama in order to find some practical solutions./ 박 대통령은 실질적인 해결책을 찾기 위해 오바마 대통령과 논의한 것을 토대로 핵문제를 해결하는 방법에 관해 자신의 생각을 시진핑 주석에게 설명할 것으로 보인다/ We hope the meeting provides a great turning point in their effort to solve the decades-old nuclear riddle./ 우리는 이번 정상회담이 20년 동안 풀지 못했던 핵문제를 해결하기 위한 양국의 노력과 관련하여 큰 전환점이 될 수 있기를 바란다/
Both leaders will also deal with economic challenges like a free trade agreement./ 양국 정상은 또한 FTA와 같은 경제문제도 다룰 예정이다/ The reasons are obvious./ 이유는 분명하다/ China has emerged as our largest trade partner with both countries’ overall trade volume reaching a whopping $215.1 billion last year./ 지난 해 양국의 전체 교역규모가 2151억 달러에 이를 정도로 중국은 우리의 최대 교역국으로 부상하고 있다/ The economic interdependency will inevitably grow in the future./ 이러한 경제적 상호의존은 앞으로도 더 높아질 것이 분명하다/ That’s why President Park will be accompanied by as many as 70 economic bigwigs this time, the largest number for any of our presidential trips to foreign countries./ 이것이 바로 박 대통령이 외국 순방에 70명이나 되는 대규모의 경제 사절단을 동반하는 이유라 할 수 있다/ We expect Park to open a new horizon in various fields to further promote economic exchange and cooperation,/ 우리는 박 대통령이 경제교류와 협력을 더 촉진하기 위해 다양한 분야에서 새로운 지평을 열 수 있기를 바란다/ not to mention narrowing differences between the countries over the ongoing negotiations to hammer out a free trade pact./ 양국 사이에 현재 협상을 진행 중인 FTA를 타결하기 위해 견해차를 좁히는 것은 말할 것도 없이/
Expectations are high for Park’s visit to China./ 박 대통령의 중국 방문에 대한 기대는 매우 크다/ If she can show skillful diplomacy with her Chinese counterpart, it will likely attract Chinese citizens’ enthusiasm as well./ 만약 박 대통령이 중국을 상대로 능수능란한 외교술을 보여준다면 또한 중국 국민의 열광을 이끌어 낼 수도 있을 것이다/ Both countries should establish a firm foundation to boost cooperation not only on the pending issues on the peninsula but also other issues around the world./ 양국은 한반도에 관한 여러 문제는 물론이고 다른 세계적인 문제에 관해 협력을 증진하기 위한 탄탄한 토대를 마련해야 할 것이다/ We hope the president’s China trip will bear meaningful results./ 우리는 박 대통령의 중국 방문이 의미 있는 결실을 거둘 수 있기를 바란다/
