Nexen Tire throws the switch on new solar power facilities

Nexen Tire, nation’s third-largest manufacturer, said yesterday it has completed construction of solar power facilities at its Changnyeong plant in South Gyeongsang.

The company held a completion ceremony yesterday with officials from NS Solar, S-Energy and Airtec System, which all contributed to building the facility. The facility is on the roofs of the first factory of the Changnyeong plant that covers about 37,000 square meters (9.14 acres). It took three months to construct and cost 7.5 billion won ($6.6 million), the company said. Nexen said the annual production volume of the solar power facility would be 3,600 megawatt hours, enough to supply electricity to 1,200 households.

It plans to build another solar power facility on the roof of its second factory.
