Summer sale face-off in cosmetics

Local cosmetics brands such as Missha, The Face Shop, Nature Republic and It’s Skin are rolling out major discount events for the summer, offering up to 50 percent off.

Missha kicked off its Summer Big Sale event Wednesday, said Able C&C, which operates the cosmetics brand shop, yesterday.

“Even before the start of the event, customers showed enthusiastic interest in the big sale by posting expected sales discount rates or recommending items for the sale on beauty-related Web sites and various portal sites,” said Heo Seong-min, marketing director at Able C&C.

“During the sales period, customers will be able to purchase popular products at much cheaper prices and receive useful giveaways for the holiday season.”

The company is offering Missha Travel Kits that include five body and hair products to customers who spend more than 100,000 won ($88.92) and an air-fit magic cushion case to those who spend more than 70,000 won.

The Face Shop is also rolling out a big sales event, discounting summer essentials like skin cream, moisture cream and CC cream by 50 percent through Sunday in celebration of its 10th anniversary.

It’s Skin is holding a summer sale at stores nationwide and its online mall until Monday, discounting most products 20 to 50 percent.

During the sale period, Prestige Descargo Cream, also known as Snail Cream, and Power 10 Effector Essence will be discounted 20 percent.

Nature Republic is also slashing prices by 10 to 50 percent through Sunday.

Meanwhile, Samsung Securities estimated that the profitability of the Korean cosmetics industry will decline by 1 percent in the second half of the year compared to last year and fall short of market expectations by 5 percent.

“Expectations that a modest turnaround would appear in the cosmetics industry for the second quarter were frustrated due to structural factors, such as intensifying competition. As a result, the attractiveness of the shares of cosmetics companies is not expected to?be as high during the earnings season,” said a research fellow at Samsung Securities.
