Ministry finds high levels of E. coli in cold noodles

The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety said yesterday it detected E.coli in excess of the allowable amount in cold noodles at Bong Pi Yang in Gangnam, southern Seoul, and Gangnam Myun Ok in Insa-dong, central Seoul.

The ministry said it has inspected popular summer foods such as cold noodles, bean-soup noodles, shaved ice with syrup, gimbap and salad at 1,599 restaurants and detected E. coli and food poisoning bacteria in 59 food items.

The inspection of 2,038 food items at 1,599 restaurants took place from June 17 to July 3.

The ministry imposed 15-day suspensions on 55 restaurants that violated the E. coli standards and month suspensions on four restaurants that did not comply with the standards for bacteria related to food poisoning.
