Jeju Air to spend $8.9 billion on upgrade of its IT system

Jeju Air, the nation’s largest low-cost carrier, said yesterday it will invest 10 billion won ($8.9 million) to upgrade its IT system by 2014 in order to reduce costs, increase flight safety and enhance passenger comfort.

According to Jeju Air, an affiliate of Aekyung Group, it will first upgrade the aeronautical meteorological system to reduce risks when aircraft are flying.

The company will also enhance its online reservation and ticketing system.

The carrier will also upgrade IT systems in maintenance, sales, operation and other areas to improve efficiency by the first quarter of 2014.

Jeju Air said last week that it expects a record first-half performance with sales of 205.7 billion won and operating profit of 6.2 billion won.
