Korean Air rebuts Vai guitar claims

Korean Air is defending itself from allegations yesterday by guitarist Steve Vai that the airline broke his guitar.

Vai said the airline refused to let him take the guitar on board with him, then, instead of hand-carrying the guitar onto the plane, it looked like the airline had placed his guitar into the plane’s luggage compartment.

The guitarist was leaving Korea for Japan after completing his performance at the Ansan Rock Valley Festival on July 28.

“We actually have video of the gear getting thrown into the cart,” he alleged on a Facebook post Friday. He also posted photos of the broken guitar.

However, Korean Air said that metadata from the photos Vai posted indicated that the post was actually made in Korea, before the guitarist traveled to Japan.

Therefore, the airline contends, the guitar must have already been broken before the flight in question.
