Son adds 2 medals to World Cup total
Korean rhythmic gymnast Son Yeon-jae gained two medals in a dress rehearsal event for the World Championships.Her 17.833 points at the hoop final earned her a silver medal at the World Cup in St. Petersburg, Russia, on Sunday, while she won a bronze medal with 18.066 points at the ribbon final.
That extended her World Cup medal streak this season to five. She received five medals in the four previous World Cups, including three silvers.
In St. Petersburg, she finished fourth in the ball final and clubs final. She also finished fourth in the all-around individual competition.
She will seek Korea’s first world medal when she competes in the 2013 world championships, which kick off in Kiev, Ukraine, on Aug. 28. The 19-year-old finished fifth in the all-around final of the 2012 London Olympics, bringing home the country’s best Olympic result in the sport.
