BMW Korea issues recall for air bag, heater defects

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport said yesterday that BMW Korea will recall 1,330 vehicles due to defects in air bags and fuel filter heaters.

According to the ministry, 790 units of five BMW models (120d, 520d, X3 20d, X5 30d and X6 30d), made between May and November 2009, will be recalled because the fuel filter heater can’t be turned off, which could cause a dead battery or a fire due to overheating.

The Korean importer and distributor of the German automaker also needs to recall 540 units of eight models (318i, 320i, 325i, 330i, 325ci, 330ci, 325xi and M3) that were made in certain months in 2002 due to defective air bags that may not inflate fully. Owners of those vehicles can receive free repairs at BMW Korea’s service shops.
