Doosan Engine announces catalytic innovation for ships

Doosan Engine, under Doosan Group, yesterday announced it has developed world’s first low temperature selective catalytic reduction (SCR) system for ships.

The SCR system reduces nitrogen oxides in emissions. Previously, the SCR system had to operate at 300 degrees Celsius and be installed next to engine. But Doosan Engine said its SCR system can operate at low temperatures and be installed in any available space.

Doosan Engine said the market for the SCR system will grow when stricter emission regulations by the International Maritime Organization are enforced starting in 2016. The company said it already received certification from Germanischer Lloyd, a German-based ship classification organization.
