Hyundai’s venerable Sonata passes 3 million milestone
Cumulative domestic sales of Hyundai Motor’s popular midsize Sonata sedan have surpassed 3 million cars, the first local car to reach that level.According to Hyundai, the nation’s largest automaker, the mark was reached 28 years after the car debuted in 1985. It reached 1 million domestic sales in 1996 and 2 million in 2005.
Sonata has gone through six generation changes, with the latest YF Sonata introduced in 2009. The seventh generation LF Sonata is expected to be released next year.
In global sales, Sonata surpassed the 6 million mark in May of last year.
