Choi Hyo-jong heads off to the army

Comedian Choi Hyo-jong, who became popular for his political satire on KBS’s “Gag Concert,” was enlisted in the military yesterday.

He reported to a training camp in Nonsan, South Chungcheong, and delivered a temporary farewell to fans.

Choi will complete basic training and be assigned to an entertainment unit under the local police. He will serve there for 21 months.

“Our family at ‘Gag Concert’ had a busy time making fun of me, and it feels like I have been in an army since the time the enlistment was decided eight months ago,” he said before signing into the training camp, according to local media reports.

“I’m so happy for the fans who love me, and also very sorry that I may not have fully satisfied them with my segments.”

Other fellow comedians accompanied him to Nonsan to say goodbye.
