Posco chairman elected head of World Steel Association

Posco, the nation’s top steelmaker, said yesterday its Chairman Chung Joon-yang has been elected head of the World Steel Association at the association’s 47th annual meeting in Sao Paulo on Monday.

Chung succeeds Alexey Mordashov, CEO of Russian steel producer Severstal. He will serve until October 2014, representing more than 170 steel companies.

Chung, 65, will be the third Korean to lead the association after former Posco chiefs Kim Man-je (1996-97) and Lee Ku-taek (2007-8).
