Prices fall for autumn wine saleTaking advantage of the autumn season, large discount store chains are rolling out wine discount events to bring in customers.
Lotte Mart said yesterday it aims to sell 300,000 bottles of wine through wine marketplaces at its 10 stores through Wednesday in celebration of its 34th anniversary.
From cheap wines priced from 3,000 won ($2.82) to expensive wines priced around 1 million won, the retailer will introduce 500 varieties for the event.
In particular, it will be offering bottles of wine that are perfectly fine in taste but have had their seals or trademarks damaged for 3,000 won to 9,000 won each.
As for representative items, Lotte Mart will discount six limited edition bottles of 1990 Chateau Mouton Rothschild to 850,000 won per bottle from 1.8 million won and reduce 60 bottles of 2007 Chateau Ducru Beaucaillou by almost 50 percent to 230,000 won from 500,000 won.
For those who purchase wines for more than 100,000 won, the discount store will present 5,000 won Lotte vouchers to 60 customers on a first-come, first-served basis.
E-Mart is also opening the Fall Wine Marketplace at its 29 stores through tomorrow and is offering 600,000 bottles at discounts of 30 percent to 75 percent.
The discount chain said that despite the economic slowdown, demand for wine has increased steadily, with sales growing 13 percent during the first three quarters of this year compared to the same period last year.
Among the major wines, it plans to discount Chateau Haut Brion 09 by about 50 percent from 3 million won to 1.49 million won and Chateau d’Yquem 95 by 65 percent from 1.1 million won to 390,000 won.
Homeplus, the nation’s second-largest discount store is also opening a wine market at its 20 stores, including Yeongdeungpo, through tomorrow to discount wines that were popular during the first half of the year by 80 percent.
For major names, it will be selling Chateau Talbot 08 for 70,000 won, Chateau Cos d’Estournel 07 for 179,000 won and Chateau Lafon-Rochet 08 for 79,000 won.
“We prepared a wine event along with the wine products that have their cap seal or labels damaged from the Chuseok gift set events at cheap prices, as well as popular premium wine products,” said Lee Young-eun, merchandise director of wine at Lotte Mart.
“As we have a total volume of 300,000 bottles, consumers will be able to have a chance to meet well known wines at affordable prices.”
