‘K-pop Star 3’ includes a few changes

SBS’s “K-pop Star,” one of the country’s most popular audition programs, is scheduled to begin airing its third season on Nov. 24.

Through its previous two seasons, “K-pop Star” has discovered talented singers like Lee Hi, Park Ji-min and Akdong Musician, contributing to the boom of audition programs.

The themes for the new season of “K-pop Star” are “change” and “fair competition.” In keeping with these themes, singer Yoo Hee-yeol joined the judge panel, along with Park Jin-young and Yang Hyun-suk, who remain from last season.

Good chemistry is expected between the judges as Yoo has long been a close friend of Park. Yoo is also expected to add more in-depth assessment to the panel.

This season, the winner can choose from among three top agencies - JYP, YG and Antenna Music - which might produce a fierce competition between the judges, who are represented by those agencies.

“K-pop Star 3” began auditions in Atlanta in August. It held auditions in 10 countries, including Taiwan, France and Hong Kong, along with four regions in Korea.

The chosen participants competed in the preliminary round at the end of last month.

“K-pop Star” will replace “Barefoot Friends,” which is being canceled after its seven-month run.
