One of the most popular year-end concerts in Korea, “The Vocalist,” is back for its fifth run, this year featuring Bobby Kim, Park Wan-kyu, Lee Jung and Ali.

Prior to the concerts - which begin on Dec. 13 and 14 at Seoul Olympic Park in Songpa, southern Seoul, before swinging down to Gwangju on Dec. 24 - all four singers gathered for a press conference last week to share how they are preparing for the event.

Q. How did four of you get together?

A. Park: We have never imagined that the four of us would get together, but it somehow happened. There is still about a month left until the concert, but I’m already too excited.

Are all of you well acquainted with one another?

Kim: We didn’t really know each other. I’ve seen Park and Ali performing on TV before, thought it was fun and wanted to perform with them.

Park is the only one of you who sings rock much. Is there any particular reason you asked him to join?

Kim: The reason rock was included in the concert is that I needed to get the fans more hyped up the beginning, to prevent [the concert] from losing steam. Rock came from soul-blues, so it has elements that can go well with the other vocalists. I have prepared many fun songs, so I think I can give something different.

Don’t you get competitive, performing the show together?

Lee: As none of our styles are similar, it was actually comfortable. Of course this concert will be different from any solo concert, but I think it is right for each of us to try to show the music we prefer.

Is there any particular performance we should keep an eye on?

Park: We will sing one song from an idol group all together. But we are so bad with the dancing that we’re all rather worried.

But I still want to try this, as I want to try something new.

Ali is the only female artist in the show. How do you feel?

Ali: I’m just so honored that I can perform a concert with the others. I will put my best efforts into making the concert enjoyable.
