Actors want legal marriage

Film director Kim Jho Kwang-soo, who wed his boyfriend Kim Seung-hwan in September, will file paperwork to have them legally recognized as a married couple.
Korea has yet to acknowledge a same-sex union, though many expect Kim’s attempt could be successful.
The couple plans to have a press conference in front of Seodaemun District Office tomorrow and then submit the necessary documents for marriage registration.
Those close to the situation say the couple may take legal action if the district office refuses their papers. The district office reportedly said that it will seek consultation from a local court.
District offices are legally mandated to handle marriage registrations; the Seodaemun District Office will await the court’s decision before taking action.
A same-sex couple requested marriage registration in Korea in 2004, according to reports. However, their request was denied.
