Samsung SDI’s direction for its sustainability management program is reflected in its vision of a “Smart Solution for a Green World.” The energy solution company’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives are aligned toward achieving an environmentally and socially sustainable business, under the concept of “eco-friendly and electrochemical convergence energy industry.”

Its most representative social contribution program is the “Green Planet School for Environment and Children.” The program was jointly launched by Samsung SDI, the Korea Environmental Preservation Association and Korea Food for the Hungry International to teach children about the value of energy and the environment through hands-on experiences.

So far, 766 children from local child care centers have participated. Employees of Samsung SDI volunteer as teachers, helping the children make solar energy cars and picture frames with recycled materials.

In August, 300 children participated in the program held in South Chungcheong, Gyeonggi and South Gyeongsang.

The local community programs of Samsung SDI also stand out. The company is carrying out the “Moving Together” campaign for underprivileged Cheonan citizens in partnership with the city. Employees assist senior citizens and low-income households with moving home. In addition to delivering furniture, employees help with tasks such as papering walls and installing electricity and water pipes.

Over 190 households have received this assistance since October 2005.

In Ulsan, Gyeonggi, Samsung SDI is partnered with some local schools, military troops and social welfare facilities to promote cultural heritage and the local environment.

Through various activities such as protecting Mount Sinbul and the Bangudae Petroglyphs, the company has received positive responses from local residents and environmental organizations.

“Active interaction with and contribution to society is an absolutely necessary condition to become a global leading company. Sustainability management is also connected to Samsung SDI’s vision to become an environmentally-friendly provider of energy solutions,” said CEO Park Sang-jin, vowing that Samsung SDI will continue carrying out a variety of social contribution activities.
