‘Happy’ debut for Mamamoo

A new girl group debuted Thursday with support from renowned composer and music producer Kim Do-hoon, who has written songs for G.Na, K.Will and many other popular Korean singers.

The group, Mamamoo, has released “Don’t Be Happy” featuring rapper Bumkey, according to WA Entertainment yesterday. The song, originally composed by Esna, who also composed “Special Love” for Wheesung and Gumi, was rearranged by Kim for the group. The acoustic sound has been turned into an R&B style.

The song, which was released on Thursday, has ranked highly on major online music providers, including Melon, Olleh Music and Soribada.

Industry experts have praised the group for getting such good results with hardly any promotion.

The group said its name was inspired by the word “Mama,” the first word most babies learn to say. It said it’s going to make music that will sound fresh and original - as if listeners were hearing music for the first time.

“We’ll show a variety of music genres in the future by collaborating with many artists,” an official at WA Entertainment said.
