U-22 team settles for draw with Jordan

The U-22 Korean national football team, led by Coach Lee Kwang-jong, had a 1-1 drew against Jordan in the AFC U-22 Championship that kicked off Saturday in Oman.

In the Group A round match against Jordan, held in the Royal Oman Police Stadium, the young Taegeuk Warriors gave Jordan a 1-0 lead with defender Rim Chang-woo’s own goal in the 30th minute, but the 22-year-old made up for his mistake by scoring the equalizer on a header in the 43th minute in a free-kick situation.

Korea is grouped with Myanmar and Oman, the host country, and will face Myanmar at 10 p.m. today and Oman on Wednesday.

The top two countries will advance to the second round of the event, in which a total of 16 countries are competing in four groups.

The U-22 national team consists of players who are likely to participate in the 2014 Incheon Asian Games in September.
