SK Telecom will be adviser on LTE network in Shanghai

SK Telecom is exporting its long-term evolution network (LTE) technology to China, the nation’s No. 1 mobile carrier said yesterday after signing a contract with China Telecom.

The deal will help China Telecom design and optimize an LTE network in Shanghai. SKT will dispatching network professionals to Shanghai through August for consultations.

China Telecom showed great interest in SK Telecom’s world-class LTE technology at the Mobile Asia Expo in June and signed the consulting contract after several meetings with SKT.

SKT expects that success in Shanghai could lead to similar consulting contracts in other Chinese cities.

The local mobile carrier also predicted that if SK Telecom’s LTE know-how is recognized in the world’s biggest market, it would be a big boost for exports of Korean devices and mobile communication technology.

China is emerging as the world’s biggest LTE device market as Chinese mobile carriers announced they will invest 28.13 trillion won ($26.4 billion) solely in LTE networks over two years.
