Wisconsin honors 3 alumni
Yoon Jeung-hyun, Kang Hyeon-bae, Dennis Hong
The Korean alumni association of the University of Wisconsin-Madison has selected Yoon Jeung-hyun, the former minister of strategy and finance; Kang Hyeon-bae, a professor of mathematics at Inha University; and Dennis Hong, a world-renowned robot scientist, as the recipients of its proud alumni prize, which will be announced at the organization’s New Year celebration party scheduled for tomorrow. Yoon graduated with a master’s degree in public administration, and Kang received a doctorate in mathematics from the university. Yoon served as the finance minister from 2009 until 2011, and Kang received global acclaim for figuring out the solution to a mathematical problem that had remained unsolved for 60 years.
Hong, currently a professor in the mechanical engineering department at Virginia Tech, received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He has been chosen as one of Popular Science magazine’s 10 brilliant scientists of 2009. The event will take place at the GS Tower Amoris Hall, near Yeoksam Station, in southern Seoul.
