Two organizations are honored for efforts to fight tuberculosis

The Kochon Foundation, a nonprofit scholarship foundation under Chong Kun Dang, a local pharmaceutical company, announced yesterday two recipients of its Kochon Prize, an award given to an individual or organization that contribute to eradicating tuberculosis and AIDS. The two are Medecins Sans Frontieres and the Haitian Group for the Study of Kaposi’s Sarcoma and Opportunistic Infections (Gheskio).

The foundation said Medecins Sans Frontieres provided medical services for drug-resistant tuberculosis patients in troubled regions and has conducted research on product development related to tuberculosis. Gheskio Centers was cited for its role in providing cures to tuberculosis refugees affected by the Haiti earthquake in 2010.
