Hankook Tire, chemical maker to develop synthetic rubber

Hankook Tire, the nation’s largest tire manufacturer, said yesterday that it signed a memorandum of understanding with the German-based chemical company Lanxess for a technology partnership on tire compound development.

The deal was signed on Wednesday at Hankook’s research and development center in Daejeon. The companies said they will focus on developing a high-performance synthetic rubber that is used to make tires.

?Both companies said that because the global tire market is changing, with a focus on ultra high-performance tires as well as environmentally friendly products, the deal will strengthen their relationship.
