Lotte E&C awarded U.S. patent for carbon assessment system

Lotte Engineering and Construction said yesterday that its “Locas” (Lotte Carbon Assessment System) has earned a patent from the United States, which will allow the company to make a big move into the carbon emission trading market. The Lotte Group builder said that it worked with Hanyang University’s Sustainable Building Research Center to develop its carbon assessment system.

The company said that the system is already in use at the Lotte Castle Eco apartments in Yongin, Gyeonggi, and reduced carbon emissions by 20 percent compared to other apartments.

Lotte E&C said that its system can estimate carbon emissions of a building as early as the design phase, which would allow builders to use environmentally friendly construction in any kind of building.
