Samsung’s share in UHD TV market surpasses 50 percent

Samsung Electronics’ market share in the ultra high-definition TV market in North America surpassed 50 percent in January, the company said yesterday, as it also retained a market lead against Sony for a second straight month.
According to NPD, an industry tracker, Samsung seized 50.4 percent of market share in the North American UHD TV market, in terms of sales, in January, followed by Sony at 37.5 percent and China’s Seiki Digital at 5.1 percent.
Samsung snatched the No.1 position in the market from Sony in November, with 48.3 percent of market share over Sony’s 39.7 percent, and kept it in December with 49.8 percent compared to Sony’s 39.9 percent.
