Samsung’s curved UHD TVs selling better than expected

Samsung Electronics said yesterday it has sold 120 curved Ultra High-Definition televisions in Korea since the domestic release of the product, the first of its kind in the world, on Feb. 20.

It is a much more solid performance compared with the initial sales of its Smart TV last year, the company said.

The sales of the curved UHD TV were boosted in part by the company’s initial promotion event, in which customers can get a discount of up to 500,000 won toward the purchase of a curved UHD TV when they return an old Samsung TV to the company. The discount event runs through the end of this month.

Samsung’s 65-inch curved UHD TV is being sold for 7.9 million won ($7,371). The company’s flat UHD TV of the same size was sold for 8.9 million won when it was introduced in June.
