‘Elegant Lies’ top film in Korea

The Korean film “Elegant Lies” took the No. 1 spot at the domestic box office over the weekend, the first local film to do so in six weeks. According to the Korean Film Council, “Elegant Lies” had 447,454 admissions, earning 3.38 billion won, or $3.16 million.

“300: Rise of an Empire” fell to second with 303,280 admissions. The “300” sequel added 2.6 billion won to bring its 11-day total to 11.3 billion won.

The Korean thriller “Monster” debuted at No. 3, with 287,750 admissions.

In fourth came Liam Neeson’s airplane thriller “Non-Stop,” with 227,876 admissions.

The Korean “Miss Granny” added 68,771 admissions, bringing its eight-week total to 8.5 million.

The Oscar-winning film “12 Years a Slave” trailed slightly behind in sixth with 67,614 admissions. So far, the film has earned 3.16 billion won on 420,127 admissions.

In seventh was “One Chance,” about the opera singer Paul Potts.

Disney’s “Frozen” added another 40,767 to bring its total take to 10.23 million admissions.
