Hyundai Rotem gets contract from Suseo High Speed Railway

Hyundai Rotem, the train manufacturer under Hyundai Motor Group, said yesterday it signed a 324.2 billion won ($302 million) deal with Suseo High Speed Railway to supply 100 units.

It is the first business deal for the new high-speed train operator since it was established Jan. 10. Hyundai Rotem will supply the high-speed trains in November 2016.

The company said the trains, which will be used on the Suseo-Busan and Suseo-Mokpo routes in 2017, will travel up to 300 kilometers (186 miles) per hour and have 410 seats.

Meanwhile, Hyundai Rotem earlier this month inked a 494 billion won deal with Korea Railroad Corp. to supply trains for the Wonju-Gangneung route in Gangwon, which will open in late 2017 and be used to transport visitors to the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics.
