Hyosung, a major Korean chemical company, said yesterday it completed construction on three solar power plants in Mozambique to help the African nation that has been suffering from power shortages in rural areas.
The company last year won an order from Mozambique’s Fun do de Energia (Funae), and after a year of construction it finished the plants in Mavago, Muembe and Mercula in the Niassa region, northern Mozambique. The power plants will produce a total of 1.3 megawatts to supply electricity to some 4,000 households.
According to data from the World Bank, Mozambique’s power supply rate was only 13.2 percent last year. Hyosung said it also supplied energy storage systems to the region, so that it can store power and use it at night or on rainy days.
