American Airline clears use of electronic devices

American Airlines said yesterday that passengers can use portable electronic devices (PEDs) like smartphones, tablets, electronic books and MP3 players during taxing, takeoff and landing at Incheon International Airport.

The change took effect March 17, according to the airline.

Customers can read e-books, access work documents, listen to music or watch videos in airplane mode.

Korea is the first country in Asia where American Airlines allows PEDs during all phases of flights, which applies to departures and arrivals at Incheon, as well as airports in the United States and Europe.
